Patio Umbrella

Patio umbrellas are fantastic pieces to add to your outdoor space. However buying the right one can be a difficult task. There are so many different sizes and fabric options which make it almost impossible to choose.  Below we have provided some tips for buying a patio umbrella that will help make the decision process that much easier.

Space Size and Umbrella Size
The patio umbrella that you purchase should reflect the space that it will be used in. To get the perfect fit make sure you measure the area you would like to be covered by shade. This could be a patio area, dining set, poolside table or lounges, or a little nook in your backyard.

Always Keep Fabric in Mind
There are so many different types of materials that are used for patio umbrella canopies but they are not all the same quality. The best type of outdoor fabric is 100% solution dyed acrylic. It is durable, UV resistant, fade resistant, and is suitable for the outdoors whether it is for outdoor cushions, pillows, or umbrella canopies. Two of our favorite fabric providers are Sunbrella® and Tempotest®, as both are 100% solution dyed and UV resistant.

What about Cantilever Umbrellas?
Although classic patio umbrellas with a pole down the center are wonderful pieces, they are not the only option. When you do not have a patio table or want to provide shade to deep seating or a sectional, an offset patio umbrella may be just what you are looking for. With these umbrellas, the poles are off to the side and are very versatile. An offset umbrella has a 360° rotation and is a perfect fit for commercial use and modern looking homes.

Umbrella Bases
There are a number of factors one should consider when they are purchasing an umbrella stand. Firstly, make sure you know the size of your umbrella and how you plan to use it so you can easily choose the correct weight for the stand. Umbrella bases come in a range of weights so you will have no trouble finding the right one for your umbrella. Also, make sure that when you are doing your research on umbrella bases that they are rust free.

Other Things to Consider
– lift (whether you want an umbrella that uses a crank to open or a push up with a pin lock)
– tilt (whether you want an umbrella that tilts or not)
– pole material (whether your want an umbrella made with wood or aluminum)
